Servicing conventional clutch
Servicing conventional clutch
l  Please refer to notes → Chapter.
l  The gearbox has to be removed before working on the clutch → Chapter.
   
1 - Flywheel/dual mass flywheel
q   Ensure that centring pins are correctly seated
q   Contact surface for clutch lining must be free of grooves, oil and grease
q   removing and fitting → Rep. gr.13
2 - Bolt for flywheel
q   Always replace.
q   22.5 mm long bolts: Tighten to 60 Nm and then turn 90° further.
q   43 mm long bolts: Tighten to 60 Nm and then turn 180° further.
3 - Clutch plate
q   Installation position: Clutch lining must make full contact with flywheel
q   The word „gearbox side“, if fitted, must show to the pressure plate or to the gearbox..
q   Coil springs (damper assembly) show towards pressure plate or gearbox
q   Centring → Fig.
q   Clutch plate diameter → Chapter
4 - Tightening plate
q   removing and fitting → Fig.
q   Check the ends of the diaphragm → Fig.
q   Checking spring connection and rivets → Fig.
q   Checking wire ring → Fig.
5 - Bolt, 22 Nm
q   Loosen and tighten gradually in several stages and in diagonal sequence
6 - Needle bearing
q   removing and fitting → Rep. gr.13

   
Central clutch disk and install pressure plate
–  Loosen and tighten bolts gradually in several stages and in diagonal sequence.
–  To remove, reverse position of counter-hold tool -3067- or -10 - 201-.
Clutch plate installation position: Dampers (coil springs) or „gearbox end“ label must face pressure plate or gearbox.
–  Tighten mounting bolts only when contact surface on pressure plate and clutch lining makes complete contact with flyhweel.

Check ends of diaphragm spring
l  Wear up to half the thickness of the diaphragm spring is permitted.
  Note
Important: When performing repairs, always select the correct clutch pressure plate and clutch plate by checking engine code (see → Spare parts catalogue).

Checking spring connection and rivet
–  Check spring connections -arrows A- for damage and make sure riveted joints -arrows B- are seated tightly.
  Note
Renew pressure plate if spring connections are broken or badly bent, or if riveted joints are loose.

Checking wire ring
–  Check that wire ring in pressure plate -arrow- is not damaged. Renew pressure plate if wire ring is broken.
