Adjusting selector mechanism
Adjusting selector mechanism
Base prerequisites for correct adjustment of selector mechanism:
l  Drive and transmission elements of the gear drive mechanism in perfect condition.
l  Selector mechanism must move freely.
l  Gearbox, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper condition.
l  Gearbox must be in neutral.
Operation process
   
–  Remove shift knob together with cover → Chapter.
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows C- and then pull ashtray -2- out of centre console.
–  Unplug electrical connector for ashtray light.
–  Remove foam rubber wedges from centre console.
–  Remove soundproofing upward.

–  Unscrew soundproofing for selector housing -arrows-.

–  Measure distance -a- between the two studs in the selector mechanism.
l  Specification: Distance a = 85 mm
  Note
Measure from centre of one stud to centre of the other.
–  If distance measured is not correct, adjust dimension -a- as follows:
–  Loosen bolt -arrow- on push rod.
l  It must be possible to slightly move the rear pushrod (on selector mechanism) back and forth on the sliding element
–  Adjust dimension -a- by moving rear section of pushrod (on selector mechanism).
–  Tighten bolt on push rod -arrow- to 23 Nm.

–  Loosen bolt for selector rod -arrow-.
l  Connection between selector rod and selector mechanism should move freely.

Adjust gear lever as follows:
–  Position bottom of gear lever in centre of ball guide.
l  The distance between the ball guide and the bottom of the shift lever -arrows- must be equal at all points.

–  Align gear lever so that it points slightly (3°) to the right (as seen in direction of travel).
–  Hold gear lever in this position.

–  Tighten bolt for selector rod -arrow- to 23 Nm.
  Note
The gear lever must remain in the same position while the bolt is being tightened.
Checking gear lever setting
l  In neutral, the gear lever must be in the track for 3rd/4th gear.
–  Engage clutch.
–  Select all gears several times.
–  Check operation of reverse gear lock.
l  The gear lever should return by itself from the reverse gear gate to the 3rd/4th gear gate.
If the gear lever sticks or baulks repeatedly when engaging a gear, perform the adjustment procedure again.
–  Install trim parts and gear knob → Chapter.
