1 - Bearing bush
q   For selector rods
q   Renew each time after removing
q   Pulling out → Fig.
q   Driving in → Fig.
2 - Reverse gear selector fork axle
q   Axle cannot be removed with workshop tools
q   If a new clutch housing is used, a new axle must be pressed in → Fig.
3 - Needle bearing
q   Renew each time after removing
q   Pulling out → Fig.
q   Pressing in → Fig.
4 - Dowel sleeve

5 - Clutch housing

6 - Cap
q   Fitted only in clutch housing of 4-cylinder engine
7 - Input shaft seal

14 - Oil deflector ring
q   Installation position: shoulder on hole faces output shaft
15 - Tapered roller bearing outer race
q   For output shaft for 1st through 4th gears

q   If renewed, adjust output shaft for 1st through 4th gears → Chapter
16 - Tapered roller bearing outer race
q   For output shaft for 5th, 6th and reverse gears

17 - Washer
q   For output shaft
q   Always 0.65 mm thick
18 - Tapered roller bearing outer race

Pulling out selector rod bearing bush
A - Internal puller 18.5 ... 23.5 mm, e.g. -Kukko 21/3-

Driving selector rod bearing bush in flush
–  First drive in bearing bush for selector rod for 1st and 2nd gears -arrow-.

Pulling needle bearing out of clutch housing
A - Counter support, e.g. -Kukko 22/2-
B - Internal puller 23.5 ... 30 mm, e.g. -Kukko 21/4-
  Note!
The needle bearing is destroyed during removal and must be renewed.

Pressing needle bearing -A- into clutch housing
–  Before pressing in, lay reverse shaft thrust washer-B- on needle bearing.

Removing input shaft oil seal
–  Lever oil seal out carefully with a screwdriver.
When gearbox is dismantled, oil seal can be removed with sleeve -30-21-

Driving in input shaft oil seal flush

Pressing reverse gear selector fork shaft into clutch housing

Removing large sealing cover or driving small sealing cover in deeper
(Gearbox installed)
–  Pierce large sealing cover -arrow 1- with punch -A- and lever out in direction of arrow.
–  Drive in small sealing cover -arrow 2- with centring mandrel -3176- to stop of centring mandrel (drive in 20 mm).

Installing sealing cover
–  Drive in large sealing cover -arrow 1- with adapter -VW 295A- 2 mm below upper edge of housing.
–  Drive in small sealing cover -arrow 2- with centring mandrel -3176- 2 mm below upper edge of housing.
