Recommended sequence for new adjustment of final drive gear set
Recommended sequence for new adjustment of final drive gear set
If shaft bevel gear and bevel gear (with stub shaft) have to be adjusted, then in the interests of an efficient procedure keep to the following order:
1. Adjust friction torque and shaft bevel gear (S3)
–  Adjust preload of tapered roller bearing for shaft bevel gear via friction torque measurement.
–  Determine thickness of shim “S3” and insert. This fixes the shaft bevel gear axially so that the dimension from centre of bevel gear (with stub shaft) to face of shaft bevel gear corresponds to the installation dimension “R” determined during production.
–  Carry out check measurement of S3.
2. Adjust bevel gear (with stub shaft) (S1 and S2)
–  Adjust preload of tapered roller bearing for bevel gear (with stub shaft) via Stotal.
–  Adjust backlash. Select shims “S1” and “S2” so that the prescribed backlash between bevel gear (with stub shaft) and shaft bevel gear is obtained.
–  Check backlash.
The purpose of this adjustment is to reestablish the position offering the quietest running as calculated on the test machine during production. The utmost care and cleanliness during all assembly work and measurements are essential to achieve a good result.
