Tailgate - installation > < Rear lid - removing and installing
Rear lid - removal
Rear lid - removal
–  Remove upper and lower tailgate trim → Tailgate linings, removing; Rep. gr.70.
   
–  Unplug connectors -1-.
–  Detach rear window washer hose -2-.
–  Detach the terminals -arrow 1- from the heated window with the lever -U 30800-.
–  Loosen all cable harnesses of the rear lid from the retaining clips.
–  Remove the rubber hoses -arrows 2- from the tailgate and extract the cable harnesses and the rear window washer hose through the openings.
  Note
Support the rear lid with the help of another worker and carry out the work described in the following.

–  Loosen (without removing) the bolts -1- of the right and left hinges.

–  Lift the safety stirrup -1- of the gas dampers.
  Note
If the gas dampers are to be refitted, do not completely remove the safety stirrups. Safety stirrups removed completely will get damaged when refitting.

–  Remove the bolts -1- of the hinges and remove tailgate.
  Note
In order to protect the tailgate, insert a suitable material between this and the supporting surfaces.
