Removing and installing front door window
Removing and installing front door window
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1783-
  Note
Removal and installation are described only for the left door window. Removal and installation on the right side of the vehicle are similar.
Removal
  W00-0990
Carry out following work:
–  If fitted, remove window crank → Chapter.
–  Remove front door trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
–  Remove cover → Chapter.
–  Lever off cap -4-.
–  Lower door window -1- until clamping bolts -2- for door window are accessible.
  Note
t  If this part of the work cannot be done due to a fault in window regulator motor, the window regulator motor can be removed → Chapter.
t  The window can then be pushed to required working position.
–  Loosen the clamping screws -2- (2 pieces) but do not unscrew. Remove clamping jaws -3- .

   
–  Lift door window -1- upwards out of window regulator -3-.
–  Lift door window -1- from behind and swing forwards out of window channels -4--arrow-.

Installation
   
Carry out following work:
–  Insert door window -1- into window channels -2--arrow a-.
  Note
Ensure that door window is properly located in window channel.
–  Insert door window -arrow b- into clamping jaws -3- but do not force it in.
–  Align door window with window frame -arrow c-.

   
–  Tighten clamping bolts -2- (qty. 2) to specified torque of 8 Nm.
Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
l  Before the cover cap -4-, the cover and the door trim are installed, carry out a functional test.
