Removing windscreen
Removing windscreen
–  Unscrew the fuel tank cap.
–  Remove plenum chamber cover.
–  Remove the interior lining on the A-pillar: → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.70
In vehicles with rear view mirrors without complements
   
–  Turn rear view mirror -1- to left -Arrow- until it releases from catch lug in retaining plate.
In vehicles with rain sensor and light regulation photo sensor rear view mirror

–  Remove covers -1- from mirror base.
–  Pull connector -2- out of mirror base and disconnect.
–  Pull mirror base and mirror downward off of retaining plate -Arrow-.
–  After removing the interior rear view mirror, pull out rain sensor located in middle.
All vehicles (continued)
–  Remove wiper arms
–  Remove the cover of the plenum chamber → Item.
–  Remove upper linings from struts A .

–  Unhook cover -1- in -direction of arrow- and remove.
–  Unscrew the two bolts arrows fastening the interior light.
–  Remove sun visor and mount as well as grab handles on driver and passenger sides (so that opening is present between plate flange and shaped portion of roof). → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.68

–  Fit the plastic guard -VAG 1474/8--1- between the windscreen and the dash panel.
–  Feed the thread guide -VAG 1474/2--2- through the glue seam.
  WARNING
When feeding the threaded guide -VAG 1474/2--2- in through the side window, take care that this is performed as close as possible to the bodywork flange.
–  After inserting the thread guide -VAG 1474/2--2- through the glue bead, insert the end of the cutting thread -3- into the vehicle interior.

–  Fix the one end of the cutting thread in the vehicle interior with the cable holder knob -VAG 1351/2--3- so that it cannot loosen.
–  Using the lever -U 30800-, release the sealing lip from the bodywork as viewed from the upper side of the windscreen.
–  Spray a soapy water solution or apply neutral Vaseline between the bodywork flange and the sealing ring.
–  Fit the cutting thread or wire -2- with the metal tubes -1- of the window extraction kit -VAG 1755- to the upper side of the windscreen.
–  If the gap is too tight, apply the cutting thread or wire from the outside and press the cutting thread or wire under the sealing lip using the lever -U 30800-.
–  Lay the cutting thread or wire -2- around the windscreen.
  Note
Take care that the cutting thread or wire -2- are lying under the corners of the windscreen.
  WARNING
Place the cutting thread or wire at the bottom and top windscreen flange underneath the sealing lip to prevent it being damaged.

–  Guide the end of the cutting thread or wire with the threaded guide -VAG 1474/2- into the vehicle interior.
–  Fix the other end of the cutting thread or wire to the double suction cups -VAG 1654A-.
–  Place the double suction cups -VAG 1654A- to “position I” and release the window by rolling up the cutting thread or wire onto the coil.
–  Move the double suction cups -VAG 1654A- to the position shown in the figure and release the window by separating the glue seam.
  WARNING
The use of protective glasses and leather gloves is obligatory.
When cutting, press the cutting thread or wire against the windscreen with the wedge -VAG 1474/5- to prevent damage to the dashboard and headliner.
