  Note
t  Before working with the airbag system, always read the safety precautions → Chapter.
t  Before working with the head airbag system, always read the safety precautions → Chapter.
t  Before disconnecting the connectors, mark them to avoid confusion when refitting.
t  Before working on the electrical system, disconnect the battery earth strap.
t  After connecting the battery, check the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, electric windows, etc.) according to the instructions in the Repair Manual and / or the Operating Instructions.
–  Turn off the ignition and all electricity consumers.
–  Disconnect the vehicle battery → Starter motor, voltage supply; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove the upper lining of strut A → Chapter.
–  Remove the upper lining of strut B → Chapter.
–  Remove the upper lining of strut C → Chapter.
Depending on version
–  Dismount interior roof moulding → Chapter.
–  Remove interior roof moulding with sun roof/deflector → Chapter.
Continued for all vehicles
   
–  Disconnect plug -7-.
–  Unscrew nut -9- and remove earth cable -8-.
–  Unscrew the screws -5- (6x).
–  Unscrew the bolt -12-.
–  Beginning at the front side, release the curtain airbag -3-Curtain airbag igniter, drivers side -N251- or Curtain airbag igniter, passenger side -N252- and ending in the middle section and then remove the clips -10- (3x).
–  Lift down the gas generator -4- from the fastening points on the rear roof crossbeam -6- and remove.
–  Once the head airbag is dismounted, store in the container provided for transport or on a clean, flat surface.
