  WARNING
t  Observe safety precautions for working on airbags and curtain airbags → Chapter.
t  Observe additional safety precautions for side airbags → Chapter.
t  Always observe correct sequence for installing curtain airbag.
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  When performing repair work, renew self-locking nuts and bolts.
t  Always clean threaded holes for bolts using e.g. a thread tap.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example disconnecting of electrical connections), the person concerned must discharge static, for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
   
–  Clip clips -1- of retaining tabs for curtain airbag into body.

–  Engage gas generator -4- at stud and hand-tighten cap nuts -2- and -3-.
–  Tighten cap nuts -2- and -3-.
–  Connect the electric connector -1-.

–  To do so, attach connector -1- to curtain airbag igniter -2-.
–  Press in connector locking element -3- in direction of -arrow-. This inserts connector as far as possible in curtain airbag igniter whilst at the same time locking it.
  Note
t  Make sure that electrical connectors are pressed on as far as they will go and engage audibly.
t  Ensure that wiring is not trapped.
t  If fastened at factory with 1 clap and double sided tape, order new clips and use 2 clips when reinstalling.

–  Secure curtain airbag with two clips -1- and -2-.
–  Tighten bolt -3- for curtain airbag at A-pillar.
–  Install roof trim → Chapter
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire → Rep. gr.27.
  Note
t  Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
t  If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, use the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X- to read-out, erase and then re-read the fault memory.
