  Note
t  Before working with the airbag system, always read the safety precautions → Chapter.
t  Pay attention to coding (obtain as necessary) for vehicles with coded radio/radio navigation system (RNS).
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove the front seat → Chapter.
  Note
The side airbag adapt. -VAS 5232- should always be connected in the removal procedure.
   
–  Position the rear seat in the seat bracket -T20172/5-.
–  Removing front seat belt closing → Chapter.
Depending upon equipment:
–  Remove the seat trim with drawer cover → Chapter.
–  Remove the seat trim with drawer → Chapter.
–  Dismount seat trim without height control element → Chapter.

–  Remove connector -1- from the coupling station -5-, by pressing the anchorage tab -4-.
–  Unclip the cable -2- and remove it from the clip -3- fastening it to the frame.
2-door vehicle

–  Undo the bolts -1- (tightening torque 24 ± 2.4 Nm) on both sides of the seat.
4-door vehicle

–  Unscrew the bolts -1...4- (tightening torque 24 ± 2.4 Nm).
All vehicles (continued)

–  Use a screwdriver to lever in the direction of the -arrow-; and if necessary, hit the catch carefully -1- until it is fully open.
–  Undo the catches on both sides and remove the seat back.
  WARNING
Use the seat bracket -T20172/5- for repairs for removal and fitting of the different backrest components.
