Removing and installing locking cable
Removing and installing locking cable
t  Lock cable: Removing → Anchor

Removing
  Caution
Follow steps required when disconnecting battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Disconnect ground cable battery.
–  Remove driver's storage compartment → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove steering column trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove air conditioner operating unit → Air conditioning system; Rep. gr.87.
–  Remove ashtray from centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove selector mechanism cover → Chapter.
–  Turn ignition key to „ignition on“ position.
–  Shift selector lever to position „P“.
  Note
The locking cable must not be bent or kinked.
   
–  Prise up the retaining clip -2- from the interlock lever and remove the lock cable -1- from the ignition switch.
  Note
The securing screws of the support bracket need not be removed.

–  Lift up the retaining lug -A- and pull off the bolt for the locking cable in direction of -arrow-.
–  Pull locking cable out of the front wall.
Installing
Install in reverse order, observing following:
  A37-10401
–  Route locking cable below wiring harness -arrow A- and behind the dash panel brace -arrow B- without kinking.
–  Turn ignition key to „ignition on“ position.

–  Insert locking cable -1- into ignition/starter switch.
–  Check that the interlock lever -2- is latched in firmly.
–  Turn ignition/starter switch to locked position („ignition off“).
–  Make sure that selector lever is in position „P“.
–  Engage the locking cable eye in the bolt.

–  Lift up securing spring -A- slightly.
–  Insert the locking cable against -the direction of the arrow-.
l  The retaining tab -A- must lock the locking cable
–  Adjusting the lock cable → Chapter
–  Remove steering column trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove driver's storage compartment: → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Install the ash tray installed in the centre console → General body repairs, Interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Install air conditioning operating unit → Air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Install gear selector mechanism cover → Chapter.
–  Take all the necessary precautionary measures when connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
