• ◆ 3203 Oil seal extractor
• ◆ 3266 Fitting sleeve
• ◆ T10053/1 Guide sleeve
• ◆ T10069 Counter-holder
• ◆ V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)
• ◆ V.A.G 1601 Torque wrench (150...800 Nm)

Removing

• ‒ Remove ribbed belt .
• ‒ → Remove vibration damper. To do this, lock vibration damper with counter-holder T10069.
• ‒ Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor 3203 three turns (approx. 4 mm) out of the outer part and lock with knurled screw.

• ‒ → Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor 3203, place it in position and exerting firm pressure screw it as far as possible into oil seal.
• ‒ Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.

Installing

Note:

→ A PTFE seal (Teflon) -2- has been introduced gradually to replace the coil spring seal -1-. The seal has a wider sealing lip. PTFE seals are fitted free of oil or grease.

If a PTFE seal is installed then only such a seal may be used as a spare part.

• ‒ Before installing, remove oil remains from crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.
• ‒ → Place guide sleeve T10053/1 at front onto crankshaft journal and carefully slide seal over guide sleeve as far as possible onto crankshaft journal.
• ‒ Remove assembly tool.

• ‒ → Press oil seal in onto stop with press sleeve from 3266. To do this use an old vibration damper securing bolt.

• ‒ → Install vibration damper and lock with counter-holder T10069.
• ‒ Tighten new securing bolt to
      100 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn).
  (The additional turn may be performed in several steps.)

Notes:

• ◆ Vibration damper securing bolt must be renewed.
• ◆ Tighten securing bolt with torque wrench V.A.G 1601.
