Special tools, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ Test box V.A.G 1598/18
  • ◆ Hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 or multimeter V.A.G 1715
  • ◆ Adapter set V.A.G 1594
  • ◆ Current flow diagram

Test prerequisites:

  • ● Battery voltage OK.

Test sequence

  • ‒ Switch off ignition.
  • ‒ Remove dash panel insert:

=> Electrical system; Repair group 90; dash panel insert; removing and installing dash panel insert

  • ‒ → Connect test box V.A.G 1598/18 to control unit wiring loom.
  • ‒ Bridge sockets 42+46 with auxiliary cables from V.A.G 1594.
  • ‒ Measure voltage between following sockets:
        45+1, 68+1, 23+1 and 23+24
        Specification: approx. battery voltage

If the specification is not obtained:

  • ‒ Check voltage supply relay terminal 30 (J317).
  • ‒ Check wiring connections for open circuit, short circuit and transfer resistance at contacts according to current flow diagram.

If no fault is found in wiring and relay:

  • ‒ Renew Diesel direct injection system control unit (J248) , item 9.
