Special tools, testers and other devices required
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- e.g. with diagnostic wire -VAS 5051/5A- and K-wire switch -VAS 6017B- (or K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A-)
t  Minitester -V.A.G 1362- (for temperature measurement) or commercially available thermometer
Test conditions:
t  Ambient temperature above 15°C
t  Radiator and condenser clean, if necessary, clean them.
t  The poly V-belt of the compressor has a good condition and is tensioned correctly and that the belt pulley drives the compressor.
t  All air ducts, covers and seals OK and properly fitted
t  The air flow through the dust and pollen filter is not obstructed by dirt.
t  The vehicle should not be in direct sunlight.
t  Engine at operating temperature
t  Fault memory interrogated , all displayed faults eliminated and fault memory erased
t  The encoding has been checked and corrected where necessary; read the measured value block.
t  Perform the basic configuration.
t  Open all instrument panel vents.
t  Bonnet closed
t  Settings on operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit -J255-):
–  Operation mode “Auto”
–  “LO” temperature setting (for driver's and passenger's side)
–  Compressor on (the lamp in Econ button is not lit).
t  Functions with engine running (and air conditioner switched on):
–  The radiator fan(s) -V7- run(s) or is/are activated as soon as a certain pressure is exceeded in the refrigerant circuit (the speed depends on the pressure in the refrigerant circuit and the engine temperature).
  Note
Depending on the version of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, the radiator fan is either switched on immediately in air conditioning mode when the compressor is activated or the radiator fan is only actuated on exceeding a pressure of approx. 9 bar in the refrigerant circuit. 9 bar.
–  Fresh air blower -V2- running at maximum speed
–  The air conditioner switches to recirculated-air mode (approx. 1 minute after starting vehicle, fresh-air/air flow flaps are closed and recirculated-air flap opened, air is drawn in by fresh air blower -V2- from passenger's footwell)
  Note
If one of these test requirements is not fulfilled, interrogate fault memory and perform final control diagnosis.
