1 - Heat exchanger for heater
2 - Auxiliary heat exchanger
3 - Thermostat for the 2nd heat exchanger
q   Always in vehicles without supplementary heater or auxiliary heater
q   Begins to open at approx. 55° C
q   Fully opened at approx. 65° C
q   Removing → Fig.
4 - Expansion tank
5 - Continued coolant circulation pump -V51-
6 - Switch-off valve for supplementary heater
7 - ATF cooler
8 - Radiator
q   a = Bottom
q   b = Top
9 - Oil cooler
10 - Thermostat
11 - Coolant pump
12 - Cylinder head
13 - Throttle valve preheater
q   Only 2.0 l and 2.8 l engines

   
Removing thermostat for 2nd heat exchanger
  Note
t  Opens the 2nd heat exchanger as the coolant temperature rises. Starts opening at approx. 50° C, fully opened at approx. 65° C.
t  The identification -V- on the picture indicates coolant supply from engine to heat exchanger.
t  Note the installation position. Collar -2- must point towards the 2nd heat exchanger.
t  Cooling system is pressurized when engine is warm. If necessary, release pressure before carrying out repairs.
t  Refill with coolant after installing the thermostat → Rep. Gr.19.
Removing:
–  Unfasten hose clips.
–  Remove thermostat -1- for 2nd heat exchanger.
