Components of the manual air conditioning system (climatic) in the engine compartment „1“

1 - Condensation drain
q   Checking, removing and installing → Chapter
2 - Expansion valve
q   Detaching and attaching → Chapter
3 - Radiator fan -V7-
q   The request for fan cut-in is transmitted by the Air conditioning control unit -J301- over the comfort system data bus to engine control unit. The engine control unit then activates the ventilators directly through the Coolant ventilator control unit -J293- → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.19.
q   The corresponding control unit activates, for example, the Coolant ventilator -V7- (through the Coolant ventilator control unit -J293-) according to the power required (and depending on the engine fitted) → Vehicle diagnostic tester, → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
q   Different versions are fitted depending on vehicle equipment → Spare parts catalogue
q   Check the activation of the Air conditioning control unit -J301- → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
4 - High-pressure sender -G65-1)
q   Detaching and attaching → Chapter
q   Checking signal → Chapter
q   Different fitting locations depending on engine; „a“ shows fitting location on vehicles with 2.0 litre diesel engine
5 - Extracting and filling valve in the high-pressure circuit
q   Different versions (with primary seal valve or Schrader valve) depending on the coolant hose, distinguishing features → Air conditioning - with refrigerant R134a
q   For service station (measurement of pressure and draining of the air conditioning circuit → Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a
q   For workshops specializing in climate control, for measurement, drainage and filling → Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a
q   → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a removing and installing
q   Depending on the version of the engine fitted, it may be necessary to remove certain components (for example the active carbon filter) to connect the service connection
q   Hood with seal, always screw into place
  WARNING
Only remove the service connections when the refrigeration circuit is empty; they do not have valves.
6 - Extracting and filling valve, in the low-pressure circuit
q   Different versions (with primary seal valve or Schrader valve) depending on the coolant hose, distinguishing features → Air conditioning - with refrigerant R134a
q   For service station (measurement of pressure and draining of the air conditioning circuit → Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a
q   For workshops specializing in climate control, for measurement, drainage and filling → Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a
q   → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a removing and installing
q   Depending on the version of the engine fitted, it may be necessary to remove certain components (for example the active carbon filter) to connect the service connection
q   Hood with seal, always screw into place
  WARNING
Only remove the service connections when the refrigeration circuit is empty; they do not have valves.
7 - Extractor cover
q   Ensure correct positioning, stops water running into intake housing of air conditioner unit
8 - Fresh air intake grille
q   Check the correct positioning, ensure that impurities (for example leaves) does not enter into the air conditioning inlet
q   Detaching and attaching → Chapter

Components of the manual air conditioning system (climatic) in the engine compartment „2“

1 - Label
q   Indicates type of refrigerant and specified capacity
2 - Plenum chamber water drains
q   Both sides of the plenum chamber
q   Checking, cleaning → Chapter
3 - Rear window heater -Z1-
q   The request is sent by the Air conditioning control unit -J301- via the data bus, the Heated rear window -Z1- is activated by the Onboard supply control unit -J519- → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
q   Removing and fitting the heated rear window → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.64
4 - Forced ventilation
q   Fitted in the rear, underneath the rear bumper
q   Sealing lips in vent opening must move freely and close by themselves
q   To ensure proper functioning of passenger compartment ventilation, air ducts must not be blocked by luggage compartment lining
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Detaching and attaching → Chapter
5 - Receiver
q   This may only be removed when the refrigerant circuit is empty; bring the vehicle to a support workshop specialised in air conditioning work
q   Detaching and attaching → Chapter
q   Removing and installing the condenser, brand Modine → Chapter
6 - Condenser
q   This may only be removed when the refrigerant circuit is empty; bring the vehicle to a support workshop specialised in air conditioning work
q   Different versions depending on the vehicle equipment → Air conditioning - with refrigeration agent R134a SEAT → Spare parts catalogue
q   Detaching and re-attaching refrigerant pipes → Chapter
q   Removing and fitting the condenser → Chapter
7 - Stone deflector for condenser
q   Only fitted with certain optional equipment → Spare parts catalogue
8 - exterior temperature sensor -G17-
q   For access to the thermosensor, remove the fog light grill: → Front bumper moulding; Rep. gr.63
q   Remove the connection from the temperature sensor and extract it from the allotment in the air conduit
q   The measurement value from the Outside temperature sensor -G17- is analysed by the Control unit in the instrument panel -J285- and transmitted over the comfort system data bus to the Air conditioning control unit -J301- → Vehicle diagnostic tester
9 - Air conditioning compressor control valve, air conditioning -N280-
q   Checking actuation and function → Chapter
10 - Supercharger
q   Detaching and attaching compressor from support → Chapter
q   Refrigerant pipes: detaching/attaching at compressor → Chapter
q   Compressor: removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Depending on the engine, the design of the compressor may vary → Spare parts catalogue
q   Replacing the compressor pulley1) → Chapter
q   Removing and installing poly V-belt 1) → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.13
q   Poly V-belt allocation → Spare parts catalogue
  Note
t  Between the pulley and the shaft for operation of the compressor, there is a protection element fitted to prevent overcharging, to protect the belt in case the compressor is blocked or is impeded.
t  The overcharge protection reduces the transmission of force to the compressor if its movement becomes difficult.
t  Rubber elements are installed between the pulley and the compressor drive shaft. These rubber elements reduce the vibrations that occur during the compressor operation (damper function in the case of torque fluctuations).
