Fitting
Fitting
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removing, when doing this note the following.
–  Check all seals at air conditioner unit for damage prior to installation and replace damaged seals.
–  Check attachment of coolant pipes to heat exchanger.

–  Connect the flexible tubes for the liquid coolant correctly to the heat exchanger. Observe markings:
A - Supply from cylinder head
B - Return tube to the water pump
–  Re-install components removed (with the exception of driver's storage compartment) in reverse order.
–  Bleed the coolant circuit of air: → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19
  Note
t  The arrangement of the coolant pipes to the heat exchanger of the air conditioner unit is such that the heat exchanger must also be bled. Proceed as follows:
t  - Bleed coolant circuit.
t  - Switch off ignition.
t  - Carefully open cap at coolant expansion tank (heed safety precautions for opening cap) → Engine, Mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.

t  Unfasten clip at coolant hose -B-.
t  Slide back hose -B- until hole in hose is no longer sealed off by pipe.
t  Use cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274/- hand pump for example to increase pressure in coolant circuit.
t  Bleed heat exchanger by way of hose -B- until there are no bubbles in coolant emerging.
t  Attach coolant hose -B- and secure with clip.
t  Top up coolant if necessary.

–  Check coolant circuit for leaks, paying particular attention to connection between coolant pipes and heat exchanger . → Engine Mechanics; Rep. Gr.19
–  Re-install driver's storage compartment and remaining components removed.
–  Fit the refrigerant pipes to the evaporator → Chapter.
–  Check that the condensation drainage hose is correctly positioned → Chapter.
–  Evacuate and refill the refrigerant circuit → Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a
  Note
t  When installing instrument panel, make sure intermediate de-icer piece is properly positioned on air conditioner unit on insertion and that defroster vent does not squash intermediate piece on fitting.
t  After installing instrument panel, check exit direction and distribution of air flow from de-icer vent to windscreen.
