Removable electric components of air conditioning: removing and fitting
1 - Air conditioning wiring harness
q   Different versions (for example, with or without connection to the Additional heating control unit -J604-) → Parts catalogue
q   See → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
q   Mark connections before removing them (the connections for the different servo motors and thermo sensors are identical, danger of confusion).
q   Fit the cable harness into the fastening points on the housing (using cable ties, or in the allotments so that it does not come into contact with any moving parts)
  Note
t  During model year 2006 the thermosensor - fresh air intake channel -G89- was gradually phased out; vehicles without this can only have control and indication panels,Climatronic control unit -J255-, with the part number from index “M”.
t  If vehicles without thermosensor - fresh air intake channel -G89- have a control and indicator panel, Climatronic control unit -J255-, with the part number up to index “L”, an entry is made in the fault memory.
t  Until the end of model year 2007, the dynamic pressure flap (fresh air flap) was operated by the dynamic pressure flap servomotor -V71-. At the end of model year 2007 the servomotor for dynamic pressure flap -V71- will be gradually phased out; in vehicles without servomotor -V71-, the dynamic pressure flap (fresh air flap) is operated through a cam disk and a lever by the servomotor for the air recirculation flap -V113-. For this reason, note the correct assignation of the control and indication unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-; if the assignation or adaptation are not correct, this situation is detected in the basic adjustment and registered as a fault → Parts catalogue
2 - Climate control
q   Different versions of Climate control in vehicles with manual and automatic climate control → Parts catalogue
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Climate control: Deactivating and preparing → Chapter
q   Evaporator housing: Deactivating and preparing → Chapter
3 - Additional heating element -Z35- with Additional air heating control unit -J604-
q   Only intended for vehicles with diesel engine, see → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
q   There are different versions of additional air heating: Vehicles equipped with Diesel engines prior to November 2006 (gradual conversion) activate the heating element for additional heating -Z35- by means of the additional air heating control unit -J604-. Vehicles with Diesel engines produced after November 2006 (gradual conversion), carry a heating element for additional heating -Z35- with three phases; this element is activated by the corresponding engine control unit via relays and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
q   Vehicles with a Diesel engine and the extra equipment for “independent heating” also now carry a heating element for additional heating -Z35- In the future (introduction pending) these vehicles will not carry the heating element for additional heating -Z35-(the“independent heating” will run the operation of the “additional heating”) → independent heating; Rep. Gr.01
q   Check the operation of the control unit for the additional air heating -J604-, carry out self-diagnosis.
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
4 - Coolant tubes and heat exchanger cover
q   This diagram shows the version for vehicles with Additional heating element -Z35-
q   There are different versions for vehicles with or without Additional heating element -Z35- (for vehicles without the Additional heating element -Z35- this opening for the Additional heating element -Z35- is covered) → Parts catalogue

q   Removing and fitting (see removal of the Servomotor for the air recirculation flap -V113-) → Chapter
q   Following fitting, test both servomotors to see if the bracket holds its position; if there is some play then eliminate it by applying some spongy material to the interior of the attachment points of the bracket → Chapter
q   The cover is only fitted in the version with dynamic pressure flap servomotor -V71- (theair recirculation flap -V113-is bolted in the intake cavity in the version withoutdynamic pressure flap servomotor -V71-)
q   Until the end of model year 2007, the dynamic pressure flap was operated by the dynamic pressure flap servomotor -V71-.
