Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  W00-0427
t  Air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A- (or later model).
  Note
t  The refrigerant must be extracted beforehand, e.g. with air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A- (or later model).
t  Comply with notes → Chapter.
t  The torque specification for the bolts on the refrigerant lines to the air conditioner compressor is 22 Nm.
Perform the following jobs:
Removing
–  Remove noise insulation under engine → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.

  Note
Depending on engine, remove charge air hose.
–  Remove poly V-belt -1- → Power unit; Rep. gr.13.
–  Disconnect connector from air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280--3-.
  WARNING
Danger of freezing injuries.
If refrigerant circuit has not been evacuated, refrigerant will escape.
Extract refrigerant before opening refrigerant circuit. If the refrigerant circuit is not opened within 10 minutes after it has been evacuated, pressure may develop in coolant circuit due to re-evaporation. Extract refrigerant again.
–  Remove bolts -2- (22 Nm ± 1 Nm) from air conditioner compressor -4- and separate refrigerant lines from air conditioner compressor -4-.
–  Seal refrigerant lines immediately using suitable means.
–  Remove hexagon bolts -5- (25 Nm) and remove air conditioner compressor -4-.

Installing
–  Install air conditioner compressor in reverse order of removal. Ensure dowel sleeves are seated correctly.
–  Observe remarks on installation of air conditioner compressor → Chapter.
