–  Switch off electrical consumers.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Pull out ignition key.
–  Mark coolant hoses to avoid interchange.
  Note
If the supplementary heater is additionally operated with the infotainment system and/or radio remote control, the battery must be disconnected → Rep. gr.27.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-

t  Hose clamps, up to Ø 25 mm -3094-
  Note
t  A type plate is stuck on the supplementary heater. This type plate indicates which heater version is installed in the vehicle → Chapter.
t  The coolant circuit must be bled after it is opened → Rep. gr.19.

1 - Auxiliary heater aerial -R182-
q   For vehicles with auxiliary heater and remote control
q   removing and fitting → Rep. gr.92
2 - Push radio receiver for auxiliary heater -R64-
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
3 - Fuse carrier
q   Installation location: Beneath dash panel (left-side) → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
4 - Battery -A-
q   Installation location: In engine compartment, on the left hand side
5 - exterior temperature sensor -G17-
q   Check: Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 505X-
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
6 - Exhaust system
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
7 - Circulation pump -V55-
q   Located at the auxiliary heater.
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
8 - Auxiliary heater Thermo Top V
q   With auxiliary heating control unit -J364-.
q   Installation location: below front bumper on right.

9 - Heater coolant shut-off valve -N279-
  Note
The heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- is fitted only in vehicles with the auxiliary heating function.
Function: When auxiliary heating mode is selected, it switches to the smaller coolant circuit. If the heater coolant shut-off valve -N279- is cut off from the power supply, the large coolant circuit is opened.

10 - Metering pump -V54-
q   Installation location: on the fuel tank
q   It is possible that the metering pump ticks audibly but still does not deliver fuel because there is air in the suction hose. The control unit then switches off completely. Therefore, read fault memory using vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 505X-, Self-diagnosis of supplementary heater Thermo Top V. Erase fault memory and carry out final control diagnosis of supplementary heater Thermo Top V.
