Measuring piston projection at „TDC“
Measuring piston projection at „TDC“
Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
  Note
t  Piston projection at „TDC“ must be measured when installing new pistons or a short engine.
t  If different values are measured for the protrusion of pistons then the largest measurement is used.
t  Install the appropriate cylinder head gasket depending upon piston projection, according to following table:

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Measuring bridge -VW 382/7- of the measuring tool -VW 382-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Measuring plate -VW 385/17- of the universal measuring tool -VW 385-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Gauge -VAS 6079-, see equivalent → Anchor

Operation process
–  Secure dial gauge -VAS 6079- with measuring bridge -VW 382/7- and measuring plate -VW 385/17- to cylinder block as shown in the illustration.
–  Measure the protrusion on each piston at different positions and the positions marked with -arrows- (as viewed in the longitudinal direction of the engine: front and rear on the piston).
–  Install the appropriate cylinder head gasket depending upon piston projection, according to following table:
  A13-10694
