Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-
t  Spanner -T20175-
t  Check compression -VAG 1763-
t  Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B-

Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃
Operation process
–  Remove air cleaner:
   
Engine codes AZQ, BME and BXV → Chapter.
  E24-0200
–  Removing ignition coils. → Chapter
–  Remove all glow plugs using wrench -T20175-.
  N15-0610
–  Remove fuse 25 from the fuse box.
  Note
Removing fuse 25 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
–  Ask another mechanic to depress accelerator to the maximum, so that the throttle is totally open.
–  Check compression with the compression tester -VAG 1763-.
  Note
See relevant test unit operating instructions for instructions on how to use compression tester.
–  Operate starter until pressure reading on tester no longer rises.
Compression values:
t  new: 10... 15 bar
t  Wear limit: 7 bar
t  Max. deviation allowed between both cylinders: 3 bar
–  Tighten spark plugs with spark plug spanner -T20175- to 30 Nm.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
–  Engine control unit fault memory checked → Chapter.
