Testing check valve of fuel pump
Testing check valve of fuel pump
Test condition
l  The remote control -V.A.G 1348/3A- is still connected.
Checking sequence
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin.

–  Remove the supply line -1- from the fuel filter. Push the buttons on the fuel hose coupling for this purpose.
–  Connect the pressure gauge -VAG 1318- to the fuel filter with the help of the adaptor -VAG 1318/17-.
–  Connect adapter -VAG 1318/1- to adapter -VAG 1318/11- of pressure tester -VAG 1318- and insert in a measuring container.
–  Close cut-off tap of the pressure gauge -VAG 1318- (lever at right angle to direction of flow-B-).
–  Press the remote control for approx. 10 seconds in order to fill the fuel filter and to build up the system operating pressure.
The 3 bar pressure regulator must generate an approx. pressure of 3 bar in the system.
The 4 bar pressure regulator must generate an approx. pressure of 4 bar in the system.
  WARNING
Danger of spray when opening the shut-off tap, hold container over the pressure gauge free connection.
–  If pressure builds up too high, lower excess pressure by carefully opening the shut-off tap.
–  Observe pressure drop on pressure gauge -VAG 1318-. After 10 minutes the pressure may only fall by max. 0.5 bar
If the pressure drops further:
–  Check that there are no leaks in the pipe connections.
If no leaks are observed in the pipes:
–  Fuel pump is defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
