Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque spanners -SAT 8010-
t  spanner -T20028-
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1763- or -V.A.G 1381-

Checking conditions
l  Engine oil temperature, min. 30 °C
l  Min. battery voltage 11.5 V
Test sequence
   
–  Remove fuse 25.
  Note
Removing fuse No. 25 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
–  Remove air filter → Fig..
–  Remove spark plugs with tool -T20028-.

–  Pull 3-pin connector off Hall sender -arrows-.
  N13-0472
–  Pull 4-pin connector off ignition transformer -arrow-.
–  Ask another operator to press the accelerator to the floor, so the throttle valve is completely open.
–  Check compression with compression tester -V.A.G 1763- or -V.A.G 1381-.
  Note
Use of the tester: → Equipment instruction manual.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure:
New: 10 … 15 bar
Wear limit: 7 bar
Maximum permitted difference between the cylinders: 3 bar
–  Tigthen spark plugs with tool -T20028- to 30 Nm.
Continue assembly in reverse order of the removal procedure
–  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.
