Checking compression pressures
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug spanner -T20028 -
t  Torque wrench -SAT 8010-
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1763- or -V.A.G 1381-

   
–  Remove fuse 7
  Note!
Removing fuse 7 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
Test conditions
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C.
Work sequence
–  Remove engine cover.
–  With ignition switched off, pull off connector(s) on ignition coils.
–  Remove ignition coils.
–  Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner -T20028-.
–  Use a second mechanic to fully depress the accelerator, to ensure the throttle valve is fully open.
  Note!
t  Using the compression tester ⇒ Operating instructions.
t  Check compressions with compression tester -V.A.G 1763- or -V.A.G 1381-.
t  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure:
New: 10 … 13 bar Wear limit: 7 bar
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Screw in spark plugs using spark plug spanner -T20028- and tighten to 30 Nm.
–  Install ignition coils and tighten to 10 Nm.
–  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.
