Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Turbocharger tester -V.A.G 1397 A-
Check conditions
l  No leaks on intake and exhaust systems.
l  Engine oil temperature min. 60 °C
Test sequence
–  The charge pressure is measured under full load, whilst driving or on a rolling road. Test duration per measurement max. 10 seconds.
  W00-0565
–  Pull off connecting hose running between intake manifold and fuel pressure regulator on intake manifold and connect together using turbocharger tester -V.A.G 1397 A- T-piece connector.
–  Select measuring range l.
  Note!
t  To operate turbocharger tester see operating instructions.
t  The hoses must be connected so that there is no possibility of leaks.
t  If boost pressure is measured whilst driving, it is necessary for safety reasons, for a second person to operate the turbocharger tester.
t  Ensure that the pressure hose is not trapped between the bonnet and the body.
–  Measuring charge pressure at full throttle: Accelerate with full throttle from 2000 rpm in 3rd gear or in 2nd driving range.
–  At 3000 rpm press the memory button “M” on turbocharger tester. Specification (absolute pressure): 1.700 … 2000 bar
If the charge pressure is exceeded:
  E21-0013
–  Pull off charge pressure control solenoid valve -N75--1- connector -2-.
–  Check hose from connecting pipe (between turbocharger and charge air cooler) via valve to pressure unit for through flow.
  E21-0014
–  Check vacuum hose -arrow- is securely seated on pressure unit to secondary air inlet valve and to combi-valve.
–  Check pressure unit for charge pressure regulating valve is securely mounted on turbocharger.
–  Check shaft mounting for charge pressure regulating valve in turbocharger for ease of movement. When corroded together, renew turbocharger.
If there is no fault or the charge pressure is not attained:
–  Check charge pressure regulation solenoid valve -N75- → Diagnostics operations unitVAS 5051.
  E21-0015
