Assemble
Assemble
  Note!
t  Only remove the new cylinder head gasket from its packing immediately before installing.
t  Handle the new gasket with extreme care. Damaging will lead to leaks.
–  Place a clean cloth in cylinders so that no dirt or emery cloth particles can get in between cylinder wall and piston.
–  Also prevent dirt and emery cloth particles from getting into the coolant.
–  Carefully clean cylinder head and cylinder block sealing surfaces. Thereby ensuring that no scoring or scratches are formed (when using abrasive paper the grade must not be less than 100).
–  Carefully remove metal particles, emery remains and cloths.
–  Set No. 1 cylinder piston to top dead centre and then turn crankshaft back slightly.
–  Fit new cylinder head gasket over the centring pins. Lettering (Part No.) must be readable.
–  Place cylinder head on. When doing this observe the centralizing pins in cylinder block.
–  Fit new cylinder head bolts and tighten hand tight.

–  Tighten socket head bolts in the sequence given using M12 socket insert from socket insert set -U-40020-:
–  Tighten all bolts to 30 Nm.
–  Then tighten all bolts a 1/4 turn (90°) further using a rigid wrench.
–  Then tighten all bolts again a 1/4 turn (90°) further.
Work sequence 2
–  Install camshaft and cylinder head cover → Chapter.
Continuation for work sequences 1 and 2
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the dismantling sequence.
  Note!
t  The crankshaft must not be positioned at TDC when turning the camshaft, otherwise there is a danger of damaging the piston crown/valves.
t  A self-taping bolt is used, as standard, to secure the dipstick guide tube to the plastic intake manifold. If this bolt is loosened or tightened with a power tool there is a danger of damaging the thread in the intake manifold.
t  For this reason the use of a power tool can only be authorized when:
t  The power tool maximum speed is 200 rpm.
t  The tightening torque is set to a maximum of 3 Nm
Pour in the new coolant → Chapter.
Assemble the toothed belt and adjust the valve timing → Chapter.
–  Install ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Install air cleaner → Chapter, Dismantling and assembling air cleaner.
–  Read fault memories of all control units → Diagnostics operations unitVAS 5051.
–  Carry out test drive and read fault memories of all control units again.
