  Note!
Cylinder heads which have cracks between the valve seats or between valve seat inserts and the spark plug thread can be used further without reducing service life, provided the cracks do not exceed a maximum of 0.5 mm in width, or when no more than the first spark plug thread is cracked.
1 - Camshaft
q   Checking axial clearance → Fig.
q   Check the radial clearance with the Plastigage Wear limit: 0.1 mm
q   Run-out: max. 0.01 mm
q   Identification and valve timing → Anchor
q   Dismount and assemble → Chapter
q   Oil contact surface
2 - 6 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Renew
q   Observe installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter
3 - Cylinder head cover
q   Not permitted to work sealing surfaces
q   With integrated camshaft bearings
q   Remove remnants of old sealant
q   Coat with AMV 154 103 before fitting
q   When installing, insert vertically from above with dowel pins into holes of cylinder head
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Oil seal
q   Lightly oil sealing lip of oil seal
q   Renew → Chapter
5 - Floating roller rocker arm
q   Check bearing for ease of movement
q   Oil contact surface
q   Use securing clip to clip onto support element when installing
6 - Retaining clip
7 - Support element
q   Do not interchange
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
q   Oil contact surface
q   Check camshaft axial clearance before installing → Fig.
8 - 20 Nm
9 - Support/Lifting eye
10 - Cylinder head
q   Reworking the sealing surface on the camshaft side is not permitted
q   Reworking valve seats → Chapter
q   Reworking sealing surface on cylinder block side → Fig.
11 - Valves
q   Do not rework only grinding-in is permitted
q   Valve dimensions → Fig.

q   Checking → Chapter

Checking camshaft axial clearance
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Universal dial gauge bracket -T20020-
t  Dial gauge
Measure with support elements and cylinder head cover removed.
–  Press down on the camshaft by pushing down with your finger on the middle bearing, and check the axial clearance by moving the camshaft from one side to the other.
Wear limit: max. 0.15 mm.
