Valve seats: Reworking > < Valve gear: repairing

1 - 10 Nm
2 - 6 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°)
3 - Bearing cap
q   Fitting position and sequence → Chapter, Camshaft: removing and installing
q   Apply a little sealant -AMV 174 004 01- on the contact surface of bearing caps 1 and 5.
4 - Camshaft
q   Checking axial clearance → Fig.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Checking radial clearance with Plastigage: Wear limit: 0.1 mm
q   Eccentricity: max. 0.01 mm
q   Identification and valve timing → Fig.
5 - Hydraulic cam follower
q   Do not interchange
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Place with contact surface downwards
q   Before installing check camshaft axial clearance → Fig.
q   Oil sliding surface

q   Removing and installing:
   Cylinder head removed: with -T20034/1-
   Installed → Chapter, renewing valve stem seals

q   With collar

q   Renew → Chapter
12 - Oil seal
q   Lightly oil the sealing edge of the oil seal
q   Renew → Chapter
13 - Cylinder head
q   Rework valve seats → Chapter
q   Rework the sealing surface → Fig.
14 - Valves
q   Valves must not be reworked. Only lapping-in is permitted.
q   Valve dimensions → Fig.
15 - 20 Nm

q   To guide ignition cables

   
Reworking cylinder head sealing surface
Cylinder head reworking dimension:
a = at least 135.6 mm
  Note!
When the sealing surface is reworked, the valves must be lowered by the same measure (rework the valve seat rings) otherwise the valves could hit the pistons. Check that it does not fall below the minimum acceptable dimension → Chapter.

Camshaft: checking axial clearance
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Bracket -T20020-
t  Dial gauge
Take measurements with cam followers removed and bearing cap 3 fitted.
Wear limit: max. 0.15 mm
