Notes on installing
The installation is carried out in reverse sequence, when doing this observe the following:
Work sequence
–  Check clutch release bearing for wear and renew if necessary.
–  Check clutch plate centring if necessary.
–  Lightly grease the clutch release bearing, the guide sleeve and the input shaft splines with grease -G 000 100-.
–  Check that the dowel sleeves for centring the engine/gearbox are fitted in the cylinder block, fit if necessary.
–  When swinging the assembly in, ensure there is sufficient clearance to the drive shafts.
   
–  When installing the engine mountings, ensure that the pins on the bonded rubber mountings are located in the engine bracket -arrows-.
–  Shake the engine to ensure that the mountings are aligned and free of stress, loosen engine mounting on body if necessary.
Assembly mounting tightening torques → Chapter
–  Installing drive shaft: → Running gear; Rep. Gr.40
–  Installing selector mechanism on gearbox: → 5-speed manual gearbox 085; Rep. Gr.34
–  Installing front exhaust pipe → Chapter Exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and attachments/ancillaries.
–  Installing power assisted steering vane pump: → Running gear; Rep. Gr.48
Vehicles with an air conditioning system
–  Installing air conditioner compressor: → Heater, air conditioning system; Rep. Gr.87
Continuation for all vehicles
–  Fitting clutch cable: → 5-speed manual gearbox 085; Rep. Gr.30
–  Electrical connections and routing: → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.97.
–  Installing ribbed belts → Chapter
Filling coolant → Chapter
–  Installing centre as well as the left and right-hand sound insulation trays: → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.50
–  Installing air cleaner → Chapter
–  Read fault memories of all control units → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information systemVAS 5051.
–  Carry out test drive and read fault memories of all control units again.
