Supercharging pressure control: checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tester -VAG 1397A-
Test requirements
l  There must be no leaks in intake or exhaust system
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 60 ºC.
Test sequence
–  Charge pressure is measured at full throttle whilst driving or on a roller dynamometer. Measuring time: max. 10 seconds
  W00-0565
–  Pull off connecting hose running between intake manifold and fuel pressure regulator on intake manifold and connect together using turbocharger tester -VAG 1397A-T-piece connector.
–  Connect measuring range I.
  Note
t  Use of turbocharger testers, see instructions for use.
t  The hoses must be connected so that no leakage is produced.
t  If the charge pressure is measured during a test drive, a second person must be present to handle the turbocharger tester, for safety reasons.
t  Ensure that the pressure hose does not become trapped between the bonnet of the engine and the body.
–  Measure charge pressure at full throttle:
–  Accelerate from 2,000 rpm to full throttle in 3rd a gear.
–  At 3,000 rpm press the memory button “M” on turbocharger tester -VAG 1397A-.
Specification for engines with identification letters BJX - BKV: (absolute pressure): 1,700 ... 1.800 bar.
Specification for engines with identification letters BBU - BLZ: (absolute pressure): 1,600 ... 1.700 bar.
If charge pressure is exceeded:
  A21-0020
–  Unplug connector -2- from boost pressure control solenoid valve -N75--1-.
–  Check the junction hose (between the turbocompressor and intercooler) of the valve to the pressure capsule.
–  Check the secure seating of the pressure capsule (for the supercharging pressure regulation valve) in the turbocompressor.
–  Check smooth functioning of shaft housing of charge pressure regulating valve in the turbocharger. If it is stiff, replace turbocharger.
If there is no fault or the charge pressure is not attained:
–  Check charge pressure control solenoid valve -N75- → Chapter.
