Supercharging system seal: checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-
t  adjustable adaptor -V.A.G 1687/1-
–  Remove the air filter intake hose.
–  Disconnect pressure regulator valve of the cylinder block breather → Item from the air inlet hose.
   
–  Insert the adjustable adapter -1687/1- into the intake hose and cover the pressure regulating valve connection with the adapter -V.A.G 1687/4-. Tighten the clips of flexible hoses.
Prepare the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-, as described below:
  N21-10022
–  Completely unscrew the pressure regulation valve -2- and close the valves -3- and -4-.
  Note
In order to unscrew the pressure regulation valve -2-, the rotary button must be completely removed upwards.

–  Connect the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687- as shown.
  N21-10023
–  Attach the compressed air hose -1- (compressed air supply) to the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-.
  Note
If there is a spy hole, drain it using the drain plug -6-.
–  Open valve -3-.
–  Set the pressure to 0.5 bar using the pressure regulation valve -2-.
  Caution
The pressure must not exceed 0.5 bar! Excessive pressure may cause damage to the engine.
–  Open the valve -4- and wait for the test circuit to be filled. If necessary reset the pressure to 0.5 bar.
–  Check for leaks in the supercharger system by listening, feeling, using leak-detector spray or with the ultrasound measuring device -V.A.G 1842-.
  Note
t  A small quantity of air escapes through the turbocompressor to the sump. A pressure retention test can therefore not be carried out.
t  Use of the ultrasound measuring device -V.A.G 1842- → Instruction manual.
t  If a leak is found, consult the notes on the supercharge system for the fitting work to be done → Chapter.
t  Before removing the adaptor, depressurize the inspection circuit by releasing the coupling of the adjustable adaptor -1687/1-.
