Activation: checking –  Switch off ignition.

–  Detach voltage supply relay (relay position 10).

–  Measure the voltage supply with the multimeter and the measuring tool set -VAG 1594C-in the following manner:

Relay carrier (relay position 10), contact	Connector, contact
9	Battery positive
Specification: approx. battery voltage

–  Switch on ignition. Specification: approx. battery voltage. If specification is not attained: –  Switch off ignition.

–  Connect tester -VAG 1598/31- to control unit cable harness, without connecting engine control unit → Chapter.

–  Check the following wiring connection for open circuit or short circuit to earth or positive:

Relay carrier (relay position 10), contact	Tester -VAG 1598/31-, socket
9	21
Specification: approx. battery voltage

Rectify open circuit or short circuit if necessary. If no fault is found: –  Replace the Motronic current supply relay -J271-.
