Checking delivery rate > < Fuel pump checking

Checking function and voltage supply
Check conditions
   
l  Fuse no. 18, OK.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
Test sequence
–  Tilt rear seat forward (Kombi vehicles).
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit (Kombi vehicles).
–  Turn on ignition briefly. The fuel pump should be heard for a short time (if the check is repeated, wait for at least 10 seconds).
  Note!
In commercial vehicles, pay special attention to the working of the pump.
–  Switch off ignition.
If the fuel pump does not run:
–  Remove driver side shelf.
–  Remove fuse no. 18 from the main junction box.

–  Connect remote control -V.A.G 1348/3A- with adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3- to contact 18b to fuel pump and battery positive (+).
–  Operate remote control.
Fuel pump runs:
–  Check activation of fuel pump relay according to current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Fuel pump does not run:
–  In commercial vehicles, remove fuel delivery unit cover → .

–  Pull 4-pin connector off flange on fuel delivery unit -arrow-.

–  Connect diode test lamp -V.A.G 1527B- with aux. cables from -V.A.G 1594- or 1594C to the outer contacts of the connector.
–  Operate remote control. LED must light up
LED does not light up:
–  Locate and eliminate open circuit using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
LED lights up (voltage supply OK):
  E20-0029
–  Remove union nut with spanner -U-40055A-.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.
If no broken circuit can be found:
–  Fuel pump defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter, fuel delivery unit: removal and installation.
