Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench (5…50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
  W00-0427
t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024 A-
  Note
t  The fuel cooler is located in the return line to fuel tank. It is installed at the underbody of the vehicle.
t  This fuel cooler is only installed, when no heat exchanger is fitted on fuel filter (in engine compartment left) → Chapter.
Removing
Observe safety precautions → Chapter.
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  Separate fuel lines at fuel cooler.
  WARNING
t  The fuel and the fuel lines in the fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
t  The fuel system is also under pressure! Before opening the system, place cloths around the connections. Then carefully loosen connection to release the pressure!
t  Wear eye and hand protection when performing any type of repair work on the fuel system!

–  Remove securing nuts -arrows-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence of removal. In the process, note the following:
t  Tighten fuel cooler securing nuts to 15 Nm.
