Oil sump: removing and fitting t  Removing → Anchor t  Fitting → Anchor

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Spanner -3185-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Spanner -T10058-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t	Extractor -VAG 1782-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Silicone sealant → Spare parts catalogue t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Protective glasses t  Flat scraper

Removing –  Unscrew the securing bolts -arrows- and remove the engine soundproofing.. –  Place the oil extractor -VAG 1782- underneath the engine and drain the engine oil.   Note Observe disposal regulations!

–  Loosen the angled bracket -1- and -2- and remove the right hose from the charged air cooler.

–  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Move coolant hose -3- clear. –  Release the hose clamp -2-. –  Unplug electrical connector -1- at charge air pressure sender -G31-/charge air pressure sender -G42- and remove the right air intake pipe.

–  Unscrew the fixing bolts -arrow- and move the coolant circulation pump 2 -V178- to the side.   Note Disregard: -items 2, 3, 4 and arrow-.

–  Unscrew the fixing bolt -arrow- on the.»hot side« of the turbocharger hose.

–  Detach the connector from the oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-.

–  Remove front noise insulation -1- for sump, loosen securing parts -arrows- for this. –  Unscrew the screws of the connection between the oil sump / gearbox.

–  Remove M10 bolts -arrows-. –  Loosen the screws --1 ... 16- alternatingly and in diagonal sequence.   Note t  Unscrew the two rear bolts on the oil pan -1- and -2- using the wrench -T10058-.

t  When unscrewing bolts -1- and -2- they come into contact with flywheel. However, this does not damage bolts and tapped holes. –  Remove all bolts and take off sump; if necessary loosen it by striking lightly with a rubber hammer. –  If necessary, release the oil sump by tapping it gently with a rubber hammer. Fitting Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removing, when doing this note the following.   Caution Protect lubrication system and bearings against contamination. Cover exposed parts of the engine.   WARNING Protect eyes against injuries. Wear safety goggles.

–  Remove sealant residue from sump and cylinder block using rotating plastic brush or similar. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.   Note

Note the use-by date of the sealant. –  Cut off tube nozzle at upper marking (nozzle Ø: approx. 2 mm).   Caution Make sure lubrication system is not clogged by excess sealant. The beads of sealant must not be thicker than specified. –  Apply bead of sealant onto clean sealing surface of sump as illustrated.

l  Thickness of the sealing paste bead: 2 ... 3 mm.   Note t  Sealant bead must not be wider than 3 mm, otherwise excess sealant could ingress into sump and clog strainer in oil intake pipe. t  Carefully apply the silicon to the rear of the sealing flange -arrows-. t  The oil sump should be fitted within 5 minutes following the application of the silicon sealing paste.

–  Fit the sealing flange immediately and tighten bolts in the indicated sequence: 1.  Tighten the bolts -1 … 18- to 5 Nm crossways. 2.  Tighten sump/gearbox bolts: 45 Nm. 3.  Tighten bolts M10 -arrows- to 40 Nm. 4.  Tighten the bolts -1 … 18- diagonally to 15 Nm.   Note t  When installing the sump with the engine removed from the vehicle, ensure that the sump is flush with the cylinder block at the flywheel end. t  Let sealing compound dry for approx. 30 minutes after installing oil sump. Only then should the engine be refilled with oil. –  Fit the supercharger air system hoses and observe the assembly instructions → Chapter. –  Replenish engine oil and check oil level → Booklet601.
