Tightening torques > < Attaching engine to repair stand

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:

t  When performing repair work, renew self-locking nuts and bolts.
t  Renew bolts which have a specified tightening angle, as well as seals and gaskets.
t  Secure all screw joints with serial hose clips → Spare parts catalogue.
t  All cable clamps must be replaced in the original position.
t  Re-attach all heat insulation sleeves at the same locations when re-installing.
–  Check clutch release bearing for wear and make sure that plastic ring is securely seated; renew clutch release bearing if necessary .
–  Clean the ribs on the input shaft and, if the clutch plate is worn, the teeth in the hub; remove rust and grease lightlyParts catalogue -G 000 100- for teeth. Do not grease guide sleeve.
–  If applicable, check centring of clutch plate.

If the plastic rung of the clutch releasing device is loose:
–  Bond the plastic ring for release bearing to bearing race using adhesive -AMV 195 KD1 01-.
l  Three square lugs -arrows- on the plastic ring engage in the recesses in the bearing race.
l  If there are ridges with a depth over 0.5 mm, the releasing device must be replaced.
–  A needle bearing must be fitted in the crankshaft on vehicles with manual gearbox. If necessary, install needle bearing → Chapter.
–  Check whether dowel sleeves for centring the engine and the gearbox are fitted in the cylinder block; install missing dowel sleeves.

–  Check that the intermediate plate is held in the sealing flange and fitted on the adjustment bushes -arrows-.
–  Bolt engine to gearbox by hand.
–  Install engine mounting (left-side).
–  Release spindle of support bracket -10-222A-.
–  Leave the engine and at the same time introduce the stay bolts of the engine bearings in their brackets.
  Note
t  Tightening torques apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or black-finished nuts and bolts.
t  Other lubricants can be used, such as engine or gear oil; however, do not use oils containing graphite.
t  All parts used must be greased.
t  Tolerance for specified torques is ± 15%.

The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence - note the following points:
–  Install engine mountings such that they are stress-free. To do this, align the engine by shaking it prior to drawing it out.
–  Install the exhaust system, and adjust it without tension → Chapter.
–  Install air conditioner compressor → Air conditioning system; Rep. gr.87
–  Install power steering pump → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.48.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Install lock carrier with attachments → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
   
–  Allow stop for torque reaction support to rest on rubber buffer for torque reaction support under its own weight and tighten bolts -arrows-.

–  Install the front bumper cover → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.63.
–  Electrical connections and routing → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
–  Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Caution
Do not use a charger as a starter aid! The control units of the vehicle may be damaged.
–  Check oil level → Chapter.
–  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
  Note
t  The drained coolant can only be reused if the cylinder head or the cylinder block have not been replaced.
t  Contaminated or dirty coolant must not be used again.
–  Check power steering fluid level: → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.48.
–  Check headlight adjustment → Booklet301.
