Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extractor -3203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -3415-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Guide sleeve -T10053-, see equivalent → Anchor

   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

Removing
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.

–  Remove crankshaft sprocket; use counterhold -3415- to lock sprocket in place.
  N13-0401
–  Before applying oil seal extractor, screw central bolt of toothed belt sprocket as far as it will go into crankshaft.
–  Loosen inner section on sealing ring puller -3203- from outer section by turning nine turns (approx. 20 mm) and fasten with knurled-head screw.
  A13-0067
–  Lubricate threaded head of extractor -3203-, place it in position and, while exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.
–  Clamp the gasket extractor in a vice at the flat edges and remove the gasket with pliers.

Installing
–  Clean contact surface and sealing surface.
–  Use clean cloth to wipe off oil residue at crankshaft journal.
–  Place guide sleeve -T10053/1- onto crankshaft journal.
–  Slide oil seal over guide sleeve onto crankshaft journal.

–  Screw in seal using pressure socket -T10053- and bolt in pressure socket -T10053/2- to stop.
  N13-0515
–  Renew centre bolt for toothed belt pulley.
–  Install crankshaft sprocket; use counterhold tool -3415- to lock sprocket in place.
  Note
t  Contact surface between notched belt sprocket and crankshaft must be free of oil.
t  Do not oil bolt for crankshaft sprocket.
The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence - note the following points:
–  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor.
–  Install pulley → Chapter.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.

Components:Nm
Notched belt sprocket to crankshaft90 + 90° → Remark → Remark

1)  Renew plug.
2)  90° corresponds to a quarter turn.
