Engine oil sump, oil pump, balance shaft assembly: Assembly overview
1 - Oil pan
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
2 - 10 Nm
3 - Inlet connection
q   Clean strainer if dirty
4 - 10 Nm
5 - O ring
q   Replace
6 - Oil pump:
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Make sure both dowel sleeves are in place for centring the oil pump in the balance shaft assembly before installing the oil pump.
7 - Oil pump drive shaft
8 - Circlip
q   Must lie in base of groove.
q   A damaged or excessively widened securing ring must be replaced.
9 - Cylindrical pinion for a balance shaft
10 - 20 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   Replace
11 - Hub
q   For the idler gear
q   Replace
12 - 90 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   Replace
13 - Thrust washer
q   For the idler gear
q   Replace
q   Note installation position → Fig.
14 - Intermediate gear wheel
q   Replace
q   To achieve the correct backlash a suitably thick coating is already applied to the new idler gear; the required clearance is achieved as the coating is worn down
  Caution
When installing idler gear, make sure thrust washer is properly seated → Fig..
q   Fitting position: Part No. must be visible
15 - Crankshaft cogwheel
16 - Balance shaft assembly
q   Removing → Chapter
q   Install new balance shaft assembly → Chapter
q   Re-installing same balance shaft assembly → Chapter
q   Make sure both dowel sleeves are in place for centring the balance shaft assembly on the cylinder block before installing the oil pump.
q   Tightening torque - balance shaft assembly with 8 bolting points → Fig.
q   Tightening torque - balance shaft assembly with 6 bolting points → Fig.
17 - Bolt.
q   Replace
q   Tightening sequence → Fig.
18 - Oil suction pipe
19 - 10 Nm
20 - 40 Nm
21 - 45 Nm
22 - 15 Nm
q   Tighten in stages and in diagonal sequence
23 - Seal
q   Replace
24 - Oil drain plug - 30 Nm

   
Tightening torque - balance shaft assembly with 8 bolting points
–  Tighten the bolts of the balance shaft assembly as follows:
  A13-10207
stage:BoltsTightening torque / tightening angle
1.-1 … 8-Screw in by hand, one after another
2.-1 … 8-Pre-tighten bolts to 6 Nm one after another.
3.-1 … 4-Tighten to 20 Nm
4.-5-Tighten to 13 Nm
5.-6-Tighten to 20 Nm
6.-7-Tighten to 13 Nm
7.-8-Tighten to 20 Nm
8.-1 … 8-Use rigid wrench to turn 90° further, one after another.

   
Tightening torque - balance shaft assembly with 6 bolting points
–  Tighten the bolts of the balance shaft assembly as follows:
  A17-10650
stage:BoltsTightening torque / tightening angle
1.-1 … 6-Screw in by hand, one after another
2.-1 … 6-Pre-tighten the bolts to 6 Nm one after another.
3.-1 … 4-Tighten to 20 Nm
4.-5 and 6-Tighten to 13 Nm
5.-1 … 6-Use rigid wrench to turn 90° further, one after another.

Depending on version
1 - Replace bolt, 15 Nm;
2 - Seal; replacement
3 - Electric connector

Installation position of thrust washer
  Caution
When installing the idler wheel, take care that the thrust washer -A- does not slip from the journal of the balance shaft assembly -arrows- and does not block. If necessary, fix the assembly using lubricant.
