Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Retention tool -3099-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -3203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Mounting tool -T10053-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (5... 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (40... 200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.
   
–  Remove crankshaft sprocket (use counterhold tool -3099- to counterhold sprocket).
  Note
When tightening the counterholder, place two washers between the toothed belt sprocket and the counterholder.
–  To guide extractor -3203-, screw central bolt into crankshaft onto stop by hand.
–  Remove inner element of sealing ring puller from outer element by turning twice (approx. 3 mm) and arrest with knurled-head screw.
–  Apply oil to the screw head of the seal extractor.

–  Screw oil seal extractor forcibly as far as possible into oil seal.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.
Installing
  Note
Do not additionally lubricate or grease sealing lip of oil seal.
–  Use clean cloth to wipe off oil residue at crankshaft journal.

–  Fit guide sleeve -T10053/1- onto crankshaft journal.
–  Push the oil seal over guide sleeve onto the crankshaft journal.
  N13-0513
–  Press in seal onto seat using assembly tool -T10053- and central bolt.
–  Install crankshaft sprocket.
–  Specified torque of new centre bolt → Item.
–  Install toothed belt → Chapter.
