Removing .
–  Remove the engine cover upwards -arrows-.
  E10-10085
–  Uncouple the electrical connector -5- for the exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495- and free the electrical wiring from their fastenings.
–  Uncouple the electrical connector -2- for the exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648- and free the electrical wiring.
–  Uncouple the electrical connector -4- from the Lambda probe -G39- and free the electrical wiring from their fastenings.
  A23-10003
–  Unscrew lambda probe -G39--3- with SW 22 socket wrench -T20202A-.
–  Loosen and remove the clip -2- between the particle filter and exhaust gas turbocharger.
  Note
Disregard: -Pos. 1-.
  A26-10721
–  Disconnect the connector -2-, undo the bolt -3- and remove the pressure sensor 1 of exhaust gases -G450- with bracket in the direction of the -arrow-. Place on the particle filter.
–  Unscrew the bolt -1- from the upper support of the particle filter mount.
  A26-10722
–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- of the footwell zone trim.
  N48-10003
–  Undo bolt -1- and remove the cross member -2- from the steering box.
  N48-10004
–  Fit the centre noise insulation -fasteners 1 ... 3-.
  A10-1565
–  Remove the right wheel housing -Fixing parts 1 ... 3-.
  A10-1643
–  Unscrew the heat protection plate for the right cardan shaft using the socket SW 8 -3247- from its attachment -arrow-.
  A34-10415
–  Unbolt right half shafts from gearbox flange or the intermediate bearing.
–  Tie the left half-shaft leaving it suspended.
–  Turn the steering toward the right.
–  Tilt the right-half shaft forwards and strap it to the sill -arrow-, as shown in the image.
  A10-1680
–  Unscrew securing nuts from the clamp -1-.
–  Remove the front cross member from the underbody -arrows-.
  Note
The mounting on the front section of the exhaust pipe with particle filter should not be bent by more than 10° otherwise there is a risk of damage.
–  Remove the cardan shaft → final group 0AV; Rep. gr.39.
  A26-0734
–  Unscrew bolts -1 ... 3- and take pendulum support out.
  A10-1578
–  Unscrew the right and left link rod from the stabiliser bar -arrow-.
  A10-1141
–  Correctly position the hydraulic jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with the base -T20145- and with the support tool -T20161- underneath the subframe.
  Note
  E40-10026
To avoid having to carry out axle alignment, the subframe and the bearings must be locked with the locating pins -T10096-.
  N40-10022
To be able to lock the subframe with the bearing, the locating pins -T10096- must be screwed to the positions -1-, -8-, -9- and -18- one after another.
  Note
The locating pins -T10096- can only be tightened to a torque of 20 Nm, any tighter will cause damage.
–  Replace one by one the screws that fix the support block by both sides, place in its setting the locating pins -T10096- and tighten them to 20 Nm.
  N40-10020
–  Unscrew the remaining screws -1 … 6- for the mechanical support bridge.
  A40-10130
–  Carefully lower the subframe using the hydraulic jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
The mechanical support bridge should not hang from the steering column.
  Note
Make sure that when lowering the mechanical support bridge it does not touch or scrape the engine compartment, since no element is dominant.
  E40-10026
–  Remove nuts -1- and -2- and detach bracket for particulate filter.
  A26-10723
–  Unscrew the suspension element -arrow-.
–  Partially remove the front part of the exhaust tube with particulate filter and position it over the steering box.
  A26-0735
–  Remove the particle filter by turning it by 180° clockwise. In doing so, slightly press the engine / gear unit to the front and remove the filter between the tunnel and the mechanical bridge support unit.
Installing .
Continue the installation in the reverse order of removal sequence, observing the following:
  Note
t  When replacing the particle filter, the transport protection on the coupling element should not be removed until just before fitting.
t  Fit the cable clamps in the same position as they were.
t  Ensure that the double clamp for the particle filter is correctly fitted.
t  Replace seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
t  The sleeves for the hoses and the supercharger air flow tubes should be free of oil and grease before fitting.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
–  Fit the subframe → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
–  Install pendulum support → Chapter.
–  Fit the cardan shaft → final group 0AV; Rep. gr.39.
–  Fit the complete half-shaft → Rep. gr.40.
–  Fit the heat plate of the cardan shaft → Rep. gr.34.
–  Install exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648- → Chapter.
–  Install Lambda probe -G39- → Chapter.
–  Aligning exhaust system free of stress → Chapter.
–  Following replacement of the particle filter, the „guided functions“ → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 must be adapted.
