Part II Cylinder block - Assembly overview
1 - Cylinder head with camshaft housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Sealing surface must not be reworked.
q   With integrated camshaft bearings
q   Remove any remaining sealant
q   When installing, insert vertically from above so that dowel pins fit into holes in cylinder head.
2 - cylinder block
q   Dismantling and assembling cylinder block → Chapter.
q   Dismantle and assemble pistons and conrods → Chapter
3 - Bracket for ancillary mechanical units
q   For tension device and air conditioner compressor
q   removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Cover
5 - Pinions
q   For oil pump drive and timing chain
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
6 - 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   replace
7 - Pinions
q   Lock chain sprocket using counterhold -T10172-.
8 - Control chain
q   Before removing mark rotation direction (installation position)
9 - 25 Nm
10 - 15 Nm
11 - Chain tensioner with tensioning plate
q   For oil pump drive
12 - Tensioning spring
13 - Oil sump
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Clean sealing surface before fitting.
q   Install with silicone sealant -D 176 600 A1-.
14 - 15 Nm
15 - Piston
q   For drive chain tensioner
16 - Compression spring
17 - Chain tensioner
18 - 9 Nm
19 - Distribution housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Additionally install with silicone adhesive sealant -D 176 501 A1-.
q   To facilitate guidance on installation, screw two „M6x80“ studs into camshaft housing and cylinder block.
q   To guide valve timing housing, secure sump in position with two bolts.
20 - 10 Nm
21 - Pulley
q   With diamond coated washer
q   Observe tightening procedure → Chapter.
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
q   Secure belt pulley against turning with counterhold -3415-.
q   removing and installing → Chapter
22 - Securing bolt
q   Removing and installing crankshaft pulley → Chapter.
q   replace
q   Contact surface for securing bolt must be free of oil and grease.
q   Oil threads before inserting.
q   Secure belt pulley against turning with counterhold -3415-.
q   The turning further angle can be measured with a commercial protractor.
23 - Socket cap
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
24 - O ring
q   replace
25 - 50 Nm
26 - Gasket
27 - 40 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   Lock chain sprockets using counterhold -T10172-.
q   Bolt with left-hand thread
q   replace
28 - 50 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
q   replace
29 - Tensioning plate
30 - Camshaft adjuster
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Must not be dismantled.
31 - Distribution chain
q   removing and fitting
32 - Pinions
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   For exhaust camshaft
q   Lock chain sprockets using counterhold -T10172-.
33 - Guide rail
q   For distribution chain
34 - Guide pins
q   Specified torque: 20 Nm
35 - Socket cap
