Special tools and workshop equipment required

Test sequence
  W00-2961
–  Unscrew the fastening bolts -arrows- and remove the engine noise damping cover.
  N10-10175
–  Unscrew the right-hand noise damping -fastening points 1 ... 3-.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Chapter.

–  Position the support -U 30025E-.
–  Fit the spindle hook -A- into the socket and tighten slightly.
–  Release the coolant expansion tank and lay to side.
–  Release the vacuum pipe for the carbon filter system.
–  Remove the clips from the upper timing belt guard and remove the cover.

–  Position the crankshaft at TDC -arrow-.

–  Check that the mark on the camshaft sprocket is lined up with the mark on the guard -arrows-.

–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- securing the drive train, engine side.

–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and remove the Poly V-belt tensioner.
–  Remove vibration damper / pulley → Chapter.

–  Remove the fastening bolts of the console to the engine block -arrows-.
–  Remove notched belt guard centre and lower parts.

–  Press with your thumb on the timing belt. The indicator -2- should move.
–  Stop pressing the notched belt.
–  Turn the crankshaft two complete turns in the direction of rotation of the engine.
  Note
It is important that it turns non-stop for the last 45°.
The tightening device must return to its initial position, the indicator -2- and the break -1- must be facing each other.
If the indicator arm does not return to the original position:
–  Remove the notched belt → Chapter.
–  Replace the tension roller.
If the tensioning roller is correct:
–  Install lower and centre notched belt guards.
  Note
Place the bolts into the console support before positioning it.

–  Fit the console to the engine block and tighten the bolts -arrows-.
–  Fit vibration damper / pulley → Chapter.

–  Position the ribbed belt tension damper and tighten the bolts -arrows-.

–  Fit the driven train mounting, engine side, and tighten the bolts -arrows-.
  Note
Tightening torques of the mechanical unit engine mountings → Chapter.
–  Fit the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
Continue the fitting, following the reverse order of the removal process.
