Exhaust gas recirculation radiator Removing and installing t  Removing → Anchor t  Fitting → Anchor t  Tightening torques → Anchor Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tightening torque -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Pliers -VAS 6340-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing –  Detach the outer -1- and inner -2- engine covers by pulling them evenly upwards.   Caution Observe the safety measures to be adopted when disconnecting the battery → Rep. Gr.27.

–  Disconnect battery earth strap -arrow- with the ignition switched off.   WARNING Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully. –  Open the cap of the coolant expansion tank.

–  Remove the centre sound proofing → Exterior body installation work; Rep. Gr.50.

–  Remove the front right hand side wheel housing protection -fastening points 1 ... 3- → Bodywork - exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50. –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Remove the particulate filter for vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter. –  Remove the particulate filter for vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.

–  Detach the coolant hose -1- on the exhaust gas recirculation cooler with the hose clip pliers -VAS 6340- or spring clip pliers -VAS 6499-. –  Place the drip tray -VAS 6208- under the engine. –  Remove the heat shield of the vacuum actuator → Item. –  Detach connection hose -2-.   Note Disregard items -2 … 8-. –  Remove the vacuum tube.

–  Unbolt connecting pipe going to exhaust gas recirculation cooler -arrows-.

–  Unscrew nuts -1-, the bolt -2- and the hollow belt -3-. –  Remove the exhaust gas turbocharger bracket together with the oil return hose.

–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and detach the exhaust gas recirculation radiator from the right side wheel housing cut-out.   Note Ignore positions -1- and -2-. Installing Continue the installation in the reverse order of removal sequence, observing the following:   Note t  Always replace gaskets, O-rings and self-locking nuts. t  Note the installation position of intake manifold gasket. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (original parts) → ETKA (Electronic parts catalogue). –  Fill up coolant → Chapter. –  Check the engine oil level –  Interrogate the fault memory of the engine control unit → Chapter –  Generate approval codes → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051. Tightening torques
