| Checking the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- |

| Press keys 0 and 6 for the “End data transfer” function and confirm input with the Q key. |

| Remove connector 1 from exhaust gas recirculation valve 2. |
| –
| Measure resistance between the valve contacts. Specification: 14,0...20,0 Ω |
Note! | At ambient temperature the resistance is in the lower tolerance field and when the engine has reached running temperature it is in the higher. |
| If the specification is not obtained: |
| –
| Replace exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- |
| If the specification is obtained: |
| –
| Measure the supply voltage of the valve between contact 1 of the connector and earth Specification: approx battery voltage |
| If the specification is not obtained: |
| –
| Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness. The engine control unit remains disconnected. |
| –
| Check wiring for open circuit between test box and connector using current flow diagram. Contact 1+sockets 1+2 Contact 2+socket 61 Wire resistance: 1,5 Ω Max. |
| –
| Additionally check wires for shorts to one another, to vehicle earth or to battery positive. Specification: ∞ Ω |
| If no wiring fault is detected: |
| –
| Replace diesel direct injection control unit -J248- → Anchor |
