Checking the operation
Checking the operation
–  Switch off ignition.

–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness. The engine control unit remains disconnected.
–  Measure the voltage with manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- between the following sockets: 18 and 4 Specification: approx. 0 V
The relay should operate.
The relay operates but not in the test:
–  Renew engine control unit -J248- → Chapter
If the relay does not operate:
–  Extract the relay for the diesel direct injection system -J322- from the relay bracket socket.
  E23-0084
–  Connect the manual multimetre -V.A.G 1526 A- in contact 2 and earth to measure voltage. Specification: battery voltage
If the specification is not obtained:
–  Check cables for brake, open circuit and transfer resistances at contact points, using current flow diagram.
If the specification is obtained:
–  Switch off ignition.
  E23-0086
–  Check wiring for open circuit between test box and relay bracket position 10 using current flow diagram. Contact 9 + socket 18 Wire resistance: 1,5 Ω Max.
–  Check the cables for short circuit, using current flow diagram Specification: ∞ Ω
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Replace the relay for the Diesel direct injection system -J322-
