Fuel pump non-return valve: checking > < Fuel system pressure regulator and residual pressure: checking

Fuel pressure regulator: checking
Check conditions:
l  Check fuel pump non-return valve is O.K. → Chapter.
Test sequence
–  Remove cover from fuse holder.
   
–  Remove the fuse for the fuel pump in the fuse holder. Fuses → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
–  Connect remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with set of cables from measuring tool set -VAG 1594C- to contact 41 to fuel pump and battery positive (+).
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear safety gloves and glasses to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection.

–  Pull off supply hose -1- off outlet to fuel filter, press buttons on hose couplings to do this.
–  Connect the pressure gauge -VAG 1318- to the fuel filter with the help of the adaptor -VAG 1318/23- and -VAG 1318/17-.
–  Close pressure gauge cut-off tap (lever at right angle to direction of flow -B-.
–  Operate the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- for about 10 seconds, to fill the fuel filter and create a pressure of approx. 3 bar.
–  Observe pressure drop on pressure gauge. After 10 minutes the pressure should not drop below 2.5 bar.
If the pressure drops again:
–  Check that there are no leaks in the pipe connections.
If no leaks are observed in the pipes:
–  Renew fuel pressure regulator → Item
