Pulling spur gear off crankshaft and shrink-fitting new spur gear
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Puller -10 - 203-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0258
t  Puller -T10392-with pressure element -T10392/1-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Electric heat plate (commercially available)
t  Temperature sensor -VAS 6519-, see equivalent → Anchor or manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526D- with temperature sensor -V.A.G 1526D/1-, see equivalent → Anchor
Operation process
–  Remove sealing flange (pulley end) → Chapter.
–  Remove sump → Chapter.
  Note
When the balancing module must not be replaced, it is sufficient to replace only the centre pinion. In this case, replace centre pinion → Anchor.
–  Remove balance shaft assembly → Chapter.

Pulling off spur gear
–  Fit the Adapter -T10392/1- in the crankshaft journal.
  A17-10455
–  Guide puller -T10392- into holes in the spur gear and turn clockwise -arrow-; tighten lock pins -A-.
  A17-10453
–  Counterhold crankshaft with ring spanner -A- and pull spur gear off end of crankshaft by screwing in spindle with ring spanner -B-.
Shrink-fitting spur gear
  Note
t  When heating up new cylindrial pinion, check temperature with temperature meter -VAS 6519-.?
t  If a temperature of 200ºC is reached, 4 seconds are left to position the cylindrical pinion in the crankshaft.
t  A higher temperature increases this time (220ºC = approx. 6 seconds).
t  Make sure the end of the crankshaft is clean.
  Caution
Do not exceed a maximum temperature of 240 °C; otherwise the spur gear can become discoloured and distorted.
  A17-10454
–  Place the new spur gear flat on a hotplate (commercially available) and heat it to at least 200 °C, but not more than 240 °C. The lettering must face upwards.
–  Set the temperature measuring device -VAS 6519- to the measuring range „2“.
–  Place the temperature sensor -VAS 6519/1- onto the belt of the cylindrical journal, as shown in the figure; Read-off the temperature on the temperature measuring device.
  WARNING
Risk of burns. Use suitable protective gloves for the following steps.
  A17-10459
–  When the required temperature has been reached, pick up the spur gear with pliers as illustrated.
  Note
Take care not to damage the teeth of the spur gear.
  A17-10456
–  With the aid of fitting tool -10 - 203-, slide spur gear by hand onto end of crankshaft as far as stop. This must be done without delay, taking care to keep the gear straight.
–  Wait a few minutes to allow the spur gear to cool down, and then install the balance shaft assembly.
–  Fit the oil sump → Chapter.
–  Install sealing flange (pulley end) → Chapter.
→ Chapter „Installing a new balancer shaft module“.
→ Chapter „Installing a previously used balancer shaft module again“.
