  Note
In vehicles with manual gearboxes and, depending on the date of manufacturer of the vehicle, the particulate filter and the front exhaust pipe may comprise one or two stages. See → Chapter

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing
–  Remove engine cover panel -arrows-.
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
  E10-10127
–  Unplug electrical connectors -3 and 4-, and move wiring clear.
–  Screw out the Lambda probe -G39--1- using the wrench -3337/1-.
–  Unscrew the exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495--2- using the 17 mm wrench -T10395/6-.
–  Unscrew the line -3- of the pressure differential sender -G505- in front of the particle filter using a 17 mm socket wrench -T10395/5-.

–  Remove nuts -arrows- and move particulate filter to rear.

–  Unfasten quick release fasteners -1 ... 3- and detach noise insulation (front and rear).

–  Unscrew the heat protection plate -1- of the right cardan shaft.

–  Unscrew the exhaust temperature sensor 4 -G648--1-.

–  Unscrew bolt -2- that fixes the exhaust system to the gearbox.
  Note
Disregard item -1-.
  Caution
Damage danger of decoupling parts on the exhaust input pipe.
Do not bend the flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

–  Loosen clamp -arrow- and push to rear.
  Note
Remove the exhaust temperature sensor 4 -G648- from the gearbox avoiding damage in the process.

–  Remove the particulate filter -1- downwards.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  If necessary, install the front exhaust pipe → Chapter.
–  Install the pressure line in front of and after the particle filter of the pressure differential sender -G505-.
–  Mount the exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648- → Chapter.

–  Install the heat plate -1- of the right drive shaft.
–  Install the air cleaner housing → Chapter
Tightening torque
l  → Chapter „Exhaust system in vehicles with manual gearbox: Assembly overview“.
l  → Chapter „ Exhaust gas temperature control: Assembly overview (only on vehicles with manual gearbox)“
  Note
Renew seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
–  After replacing front exhaust pipe, perform adaptation in operating mode „Guided functions“ → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
