Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Socket wrench insert -T40055-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Ratchet -V.A.G 1331/1-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Insert e/c 17 terminal -V.A.G 1331/6-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Plug -T40204-

  Caution
Risk of malfunctions caused by dirt.
Observe → Chapter „Rules for cleanliness and instructions for working on fuel system“.
–  Clear fault memory of engine control unit.
   
–  Remove engine cover panel -arrows-.
–  Clean all connections (with commercial cleaning solution or similar) before removing.
  Note
t  Make sure all parts are clean; no dirt must be allowed to enter the fuel system.
t  Check all cylinders in turn.
–  Dry all components after cleaning.
Start with cylinder 1.
–  Unscrew the union nut in cylinder 1 on the high-pressure reservoir and also slacken the union nut on the injector a little using the socket attachment -T40055-. Seal off open connection on injector line.
–  Plug open connection using plug -T40204-.
l  The electrical connector of the relevant injector must remain connected.
–  Erase all entries in the event memory.
–  Test-drive vehicle.
  Note
t  The entry „positive control deviation“ should no longer be indicated when the defective injector has been located.
t  Other fault messages may possibly be stored in the memory. These result from previous steps and can be disregarded.
–  After road test read-out the event memory. If an event relating to „positive fuel pressure control“ is still in the event memory, repeat the above steps for all connections of the the high-pressure reservoir until the event entry is no longer indicated after the road-test.
Observe all instructions for connecting injector pipes
–  Lubricate threads of union nuts with fuel.
–  Tighten union nuts on high-pressure lines hand-tight. Ensure that connections are not under tension.
–  Install high-pressure pipes → Chapter.
